If you have been following the Brotaco Foods instagram page you have seen this very interesting knife a few times. It is called the Promaja by Coolina Knives and it has fast become my “everything” knife. I literally use it for everything from chopping veggies to opening a bag of bacon for breakfast. Let’s be honest, this knife looks absolutely badass! But, that’s not the reason it has replaced every knife in my kitchen. It’s extremely comfortable in my hand and the weight of it feels nice when chopping or slicing. I am of the mindset of having the right tool for the job will make things easier, but at the same time having a tool as versatile as this makes things SO EASY. The size of the knife makes it easy to chop veggies and it’s so sharp it goes through everything! That is why I am very stoked to announce our collaboration with the makers of this unique handmade knife, Coolina Knives.
As part of our collaboration all of you guys will get 10% off your purchase if you decide to swoop up one of these awesome knives, just be sure to use the discount code, BROTACO at check out to get your discount.
From my experience using their Promaja knife there is a couple of things to keep in mind. This is not just some cheap kitchen knife you bought when you first moved away from home, living the bachelor life. Using only the cheapest things you can find until you start to learn quality over quantity is better. This is a quality knife that will last you a lifetime, but it does requires special care. You can’t just toss it in the dishwasher and back into your kitchen drawer. Which firstly you should never do to any of your kitchen knives because it damages the edge and you lose your sharpness. I learned that after going through multiple cheap kitchen knives over the years. This style of knife and the metal used to make it has a different characteristic than your normal stainless steel knife. When washing it you’re going to want to make sure it’s completely towel dried off, and then coat it with a thin layer of oil. Wipe away the excess oil and put it back in it’s case ensuring it isn’t smacking around in the drawer getting damaged. The whole process is very similar to cooking with a cast iron to be honest, which I enjoy because I try to use only cast iron as much as possible.
I like that it has these extra steps because I know that this knife is going to last me many years to come. Oh and when it comes time to sharpen your knife, learn how to use a whet stone properly. Don’t use one of those quick and easy knife sharpener things you get at Walmart, those will actually damage your knives more than sharpen them.
